Dr. Roxanne S. Almas is a Developmental Behavioral Pediatrician at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital specializing in children with complex neurodevelopmental conditions.

She also serves as the wellness coordinator for her division. Fluent in French, proficient in Spanish, and committed to equity, she centers whole-person care that honors trauma and family partnership. Certified as a Yoga Nidra facilitator through the Daring to Rest program and trained in Narrative Medicine, she explores how rest and storytelling foster resilience and healing in medicine. She founded UCSF’s Narrative Medicine Circles, led workshops at national conferences, and was selected as a writer for one of the films in the Breathe: Honoring the Voices of Healthcare series. An invited speaker at the 2025 AAP Conference and the inaugural Narrative Medicine Symposium at OHSU, Dr. Almas also co-chaired the Santa Clara County Medical Association’s Physician Wellness Committee during the pandemic. Her writing appears in Bioethics Today and KevinMD, and she advocates for building a “rest ethic” as a foundation for compassion, creativity, and sustainable care. Outside medicine, she enjoys writing, gardening with family, and finding the sacred in everyday life.

What Will You Take Away From This?

  • Reflect on personal beliefs, cultural narratives, and lived experiences related to rest, burnout, and grief.
  • Recognize the physiological, emotional, and creative benefits of deep rest practices, including Yoga Nidra and reflective journaling.
  • Experience rest as an embodied, restorative, and generative practice that fosters somatic awareness, emotional processing, and creative insight.
  • Apply a practical framework for integrating rest into daily life, relationships, and professional settings — and explore rest as a form of resistance and renewal.

We are Tammie & Luisa, the co-founders of Pink Coat, MD! We both struggled with physician burnout in silence. Our combined 20 years of medical training did not prepare us for this challenge, and we nearly quit medicine.
When we realized that we are not alone and there ARE evidenced-based resources that can HELP US, we vowed to make these easily accessible through Pink Coat, MD!
Our safe space and loving community provides us the evidenced-based support so we become the physicians, healers, friends, wives, mothers, daughters, and women we long to be. We know our world is a better place when women physicians are thriving!
We promise to do whatever we can to help us all love our lives as women physicians and create a more joyful, loving, compassionate culture of medicine for our daughters and future generations of women in medicine!

XOXO,

Tammie & Luisa
